Oxygen Therapy FAQs
How does the AirPod increase oxygen in the body?
The AirPod creates a pressurised environment (up to 1.35 ATA) that safely and naturally increases the availability of oxygen that can be dissolved and carried in the blood plasma, not just red blood cells.
What does it feel like in the AirPod?
The experience is similar to an aeroplane take-off and landing when you feel slight pressure in your ears at the start and end of the AirPod session. This feeling is resolved by swallowing and yawning. The AirPod also has inbuilt safety features and three pressure settings to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for every client. Mild pressure (1.35 ATA) is far more pleasant than a traditional hyperbaric chamber and the AirPod will reach maximum pressure within 5 minutes.
Do you sit or lie down in the AirPod?
The AirPod is positioned horizontally (lying down).
Are electronic devices safe to use in the AirPod?
Yes! Smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices can all be used safely in the AirPod.
What do I wear in the AirPod?
It is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. We simply ask you to remove your footwear.
There is adequate space to lie down comfortably, even for the tall folks. Take a book or magazine into the AirPod, meditate, listen to music or have a nap.
Who is the AirPod not suitable for?
It is not suitable for pregnant people, those who experience claustrophobia and anyone experiencing a head cold or congestion. Should anyone have any pre-existing medical conditions, or be on prescribed medication, we recommend consulting your medical practitioner for clearance before experiencing the AirPod and mHBOT therapy.
Middle Ear Discomfort
When pressure is increasing at the start of the session, you might feel middle ear discomfort. The pressure change is similar to what we experience when flying, and there are ways to clear our ears such as yawning and swallowing. In addition, you can press the Ear Vent button to adjust to the changing pressure conditions. In the event that the ear discomfort does not cease, you are free to conclude the session. Please note there will be no refund so please ensure this is the right treatment for you.
Detoxification
If experiencing high toxicity, you may feel unwell after the session due to the release and removal of heavy metals from your system. If you feel unwell, have some water - this will assist with the cleansing process.

Breathing Techniques During Contrast Therapy
Breathing techniques can enhance the benefits of contrast therapy by promoting relaxation and helping manage the body's response to temperature changes.
Deep Breathing: Inhale deeply through your nose, filling your lungs completely, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. This helps calm the nervous system and can reduce the shock of cold exposure.
Box Breathing: This technique involves inhaling for a count of four, holding the breath for a count of four, exhaling for a count of four, and then holding the breath again for a count of four. Repeat this cycle to maintain a steady and relaxed breathing pattern.
What is an infrared sauna?
An infrared sauna uses light to create heat. The infrared light gives off what’s known as ‘infrared radiant heat’ which penetrates your skin, deep into your tissues, muscles and cells, producing a detoxifying sweat and dissolves harmful substances accumulated in your body.
Why should I use an infrared sauna?
The infrared sauna will produce a deep, detoxifying sweat, reaching all the way down to the cellular level where most toxins reside. Beyond the incredible relaxation effect infrared therapy has, it yields additional benefits in a significant way increases endorphin levels; proven to be beneficial for muscle fatigue and recovery; detoxification; supports weight loss & increases metabolism; increases blood flow; and boosts immunity. Incorporating infrared therapy into your wellness regime will leave you feeling blissfully rejuvenated.
How often should I use the infrared sauna?
Frequency depends on your goal or condition looking to address, for general well being we recommend 2-3 times a week. It is perfectly safe to use it daily if you wish. Infrared therapy is a wellness experience where the results are progressive, freqiency is key.
What is the difference between a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna?
A traditional sauna envelops you in ambient warmth, heating the air around you to soaring temperatures—typically between 65°C and 90°C—using heated rocks to generate a dry, radiant glow. This external heat warms your skin from the outside in, coaxing a deep, surface-level sweat that many find profoundly relaxing and socially restorative.
Infrared, by contrast, works on a deeper principle. Invisible light waves penetrate the skin to warm your body from the inside out, gently raising your core temperature—much like standing in warm sunlight, but without any harmful rays. The air itself remains noticeably cooler, ranging between 55°C and 70°C (depending on your preference), making the experience far more tolerable on the lungs and skin. This makes infrared an especially graceful alternative for those who find traditional sauna heat too intense, while still delivering a deeply therapeutic sweat that targets muscle tissue and circulation.
Whichever path you choose, both are crafted with care at Sona Rooms—because true luxury lies in having it your way.
How hot does it get in the sauna?
The temperature within the infrared sauna sits between 40-55 degrees, this is the optimum temperature to receive full benefits of the sauna. Our Traditional sauna sits at 80 degrees, with easy access to the shower for a mid session cool off.
Sauna therapy is a wellness experience where the results are progressive. This means the more you come in, the better you will feel. Just like working out or dieting, it will take a few sessions before benefits begin to manifest.
You may notice that in your first few sessions it takes around 10-20 minutes to break a sweat for infrared sauna. This is because infrared saunas heat your body directly and raises your core temperature. As your body becomes more accustomed to raising your core temperature on a regular basis, your sweat will become more excessive and start sooner into your session.
